E-Prescription
An electronic prescription allows you to
send electronic prescription to the pharmacy, receive
electronic refill requests, and even electronic replacement requests for a generic equivalent medication.
There are several benefits to using electronic based prescriptions versus the standard paper prescriptions.
- Any risk of illegibility due to hand-written prescriptions is eliminated. This decreases the overall risk of medication prescription errors.
- Up to date Drug-Drug and Allergy-Drug interaction cross-references. The system enables the user to check the patient’s allergies and current medication against the proposed prescription, assuring that no prescription with possible side effects or consequences is filled. The system displays a detailed breakdown of the medicine and/or allergy combination outcome
- Thorough streamlining of pharmacy-practice interactions. By using e-prescriptions, a practice can eliminate phone calls and prescription faxes to pharmacies. In a recent study done by Medco© Health Solutions, Inc, it was reported that over 88 percent of those surveyed said that either they or their staff spent about one third of their time placing and responding to phone calls from pharmacies. Thus the need to fax prescriptions and to communicate via telephone with pharmacies interrupts office work flow and productivity.
